is that the cruel optimism everyone’s been talking about lately or do you mean straight up self-destruction

like there are different kinds of love and i love plenty of things that pose no threat, but this love comes always with a strain of deontological effort at its heart. i have been kept afloat for instance throughout my life by my duty to my mother to exist.

but that kind of love which lures me not by posing a demand but by presenting to me my own being for the very first and every other time can only ever irrupt as a response to an object that threatens it.

It is a matter of reconciling, or finding ways of living with not being able to reconcile, one’s full and contradictory humanity with the simplified and diminished humanity encoded as “femininity”; resisting (rather than transcending) confinement, the “women’s room” of narrowed scope and lowered expectations. The problem is then one of knowing what to do with oneself, where to put all that stuff for which there appears to be neither place nor name.
